The same words, said in different tones could mean entirely different things. Imagine This... A teenager says "I HATE YOU" on top of her voice with gritted teeth to her boyfriend. Now the same teenager says "I Hate You" with a shy smile in her voice. Same words... Different Meaning. That's the power of tonality.

Just enough that it conveys the point.

During saying a statement like the one above you can use aggression and negative words... but that is it. Do not use any other negative emotion, expression or body language if you intend to motivate. Do not, I repeat do not point at other's mistakes.

It would not be like you are forcing something because a situation demands so, so it would become your natural style of conversation. Never use any kind of sarcasm with a motivating voice.

Ask with confidence, caution, concern, ... as many ways as you can think of... Find the one that sounds the most curious and kind then say it that way, again and again, in a mirror while smiling to build the full round tones into your delivery.

Practice with yourself, with close friends and than with your team. Employ empathetic language with appropriate adjectives that align with your strategy. Solicit feedback from your team; a valuable approach is to record your conversations and objectively assess them. Place yourself in your team's shoes and consider whether you would feel motivated by this tone or not.

That's why I insist that those I assign to sales positions have firsthand experience with the product or service and have been genuinely impressed.
