When using storytelling SHOW don't tell. Highlight the problem, the steps you took to address it, the obstacles you encountered, and ultimately, the successful resolution. Share specific examples of how you used critical thinking, creativity, effectively showcasing your problem-solving abilities through the art of storytelling.

When you think about it, every great story starts with the same formula…you meet a character (hero) who wants something and then are immediately shown a problem (roadblock) that is holding the hero back from getting what they want. The rest of the story is about the journey towards obtaining their desired outcome. When we talk about our customer’s problems like this, we invite them into their own story.

Choose a relevant scenario: Pick a specific example that allows you to walk through a complex issue you faced. Focus on a situation that involves diagnosing problems, weighing alternatives, and overcoming obstacles. For instance, I could tell the story of how I spearheaded a website redesign that boosted sales during my time as a Marketing Manager. Structuring the story around the redesign project would allow me to demonstrate analytical, planning, and communication skills. Build up the context: Provide background to set the scene. Details about the company, your role, the team, and the challenges faced establish the stakes and allow listeners to understand the scenario.

Pain points are one of the best elements to use to craft out compelling stories. You need your story to have an aim, purpose and solution.

Highlight any instances where you collaborated with others to find solutions. Talk about your not so good experiences in carrying out a project and what you did differently in achieving a great result.

The best stories are the tales that keep you awake at night. They have heroes and villains. They excite and enthral; and they make you believe in the impossible. The reader will truly imagine that they can be anything or anyone, and they can solve any problem!

Most people think storytelling is all about creating a picture. Well...you'd have to describe a lot of details if you want your story to sink.

Solution is not always mathematical, there is no particular formula to it. Each problem has complex dimensions. If your rapport with boss is good then other colleagues are insecure. They treat you as a threat. The incompetent group creates a lobby and try to plant false stories through sycophants and stooge. They try to create stories to tell the owner that sales are suffering due to one person who is close to the boss. Generally they get benefit of doubt and there is a change in the management. This demotivates the sincere team and the morale is down which results in lack of interest and lesser output. The boss must know the truth to get the optimum output.

Don't just tell the solution. Be kind enough to describe how it will help and what makes it effective. People are told all kinds of solution daily. They need to know why yours is the best

What I learnt from my past experience is be a tough task master but always have empathy. Don't lose your cool. Have patience. If a lobby is working against you. Just relax and tell your point of view. If nothing works take a break and enhance your skills and get into a more creative field. There is always dearth of new ideas and creativity work on it and many takers will be there. Never lose hope. Try something new. Start helping people.

Don't sell the plane ticket, sell the vacation. Make them yearn for it, that when they lie down they start visualising your words in picture format.

Use storytelling techniques to captivate your audience. Share personal or professional experiences, share struggles, values, and beliefs that resonate with your message. And be sure to tell them exactly what you want them to takeaway from your stories.

A case study is a story that demonstrates your brand's problem-solving skills. A good case study has a problem, a struggle, and a resolution, and benefts, and a clearly understandable storytelling that connects them. Too many case studies don't have this clear line. They just sort of leap from point to point, omitting some of them, especially the struggle and resolution (but those tend to be what your audience wants to to know most). So, don't do this. Remember, the struggle is the glory.

I once was called on to do a talk on change management as my company introduced a new customer experience initiative to shift the commercial and customer senses of the business. And story selling is a marketing strategy that you could use to sell to prospects irrespective of the awareness/sophistication levels. Why? Everybody loves a story.
