Create a strategy first. - Study about your industry/position. Staying updated is the best way to understand where the opportunities are. - Keep your profile on LinkedIn updated and relevant completing all the required information and personalizing it with keywords related to the job/area that you are looking for. This increases the chances of being found by Headhunters and Recruiters. - Keep your profile updated on the job search platforms and companies' websites which you demonstrate interest in working for, it helps ATS Systems to consider you for future selective processes. - Last but not least, networking. You need to work on your brand, is the best way to demonstrate authority in what you do and also be reached out to by a Headhunter.

First of all, so many people I talk to tell me, "I don't know that many people." What they really mean is they may not be that close to many people. You KNOW over 500 people from church, work, friends, family, hobbies, etc. You can leverage multiple social platforms to help your contacts understand what you are looking for. Of course LinkedIn is the paramount social site for finding a role.

Having a fully completed LinkedIn profile is PARAMOUNT! I argue that it is as important if not more important than your resume. It represents you even when you are not online or looking. Especially be sure to fill out the skills section completely. And be sure to ask for multiple recommendations on LinkedIn.

Every part of your profile can be searched for on LinkedIn Recruiter, and if you’re strategic with it, you can open up the floodgates of passive opportunities!

In the last few years we have seen a shift on LinkedIn. More than a networking platform, it became a content creation one. So, building a network of people with similar professional backgrounds will not only help you when the right position opens, but it also gives you endless possibilities to learn and exchange meaningful information with your peers.

Unlike Instagram, Facebook, or TikTok, there is no reason to not have every single person you know on LinkedIn. For example, If I were to look at my 1st degree connections at Dell Technologies, it shows I am connected to 300+ people. That's HUGE! I worked there for 13 years and loved it. I'd certainly work there again. If they had an ideal posting, I have 300 people I can filter to see who works there, who is in recruiting, who is in the department, and look for a referral link. BTW when I unclick 1st connection and select 2nd degree, it shows me 15K people that I don't know but my network does. This is HUGE! Now I could go ask my connections for introductions to key players.

You never know who the people you know...know! Don't assume. Just because Bobby is in operations, maybe you don't realize his partner is in pharma, which is exactly what you are trying to break into. Jobs get brokered through RELATIONSHIPS! Do not overlook this critical step or you'll be applying for MONTHS! Use the LinkedIn job feature to get as granular of a job search as possible and save it. Did you know there is a side button where you can add more filters like salary? HUGE time saver!

Tech companies were early in-house adopters of Slack, but now anyone can set up a niche community around a topic and gather people to talk about it. For example, I’m a member of Content Marketing Leaders, Startup CPG and GeekHub. Often these niche groups have #jobs channels where people post open roles, and the best part is that the posters are often the hiring manager or on the hiring team. Not sure how to find the Slack groups that cater to your skill set? Tap friends within the industry or ask for recommendations via traditional social media channels.

Casting a wide net might sound like a good idea, but it's even better to be intentional about searching for companies or clients. By being more selective, there's a better chance to stand out with your expertise, and you're more likely to connect with the right opportunity.
