I have seen and experienced wasted efforts and resources when a team chases a false problem description or an incomplete description. Problem statements are not necessarily a direct verbatim from the customer either. What does matter is the specific “ use case” from the customer when the problem occurs.

In my experience, Six Sigma has been an invaluable tool for reducing defects in our plant's production process. By following the DMAIC methodology, we've been able to identify and eliminate the root causes of defects, leading to significant improvements in product quality and customer satisfaction. Analyzing root causes in Six Sigma has been about delving into data deeply. We used tools like Fishbone diagrams and 5 Whys to pinpoint underlying issues impacting our processes. Collaborating across teams, we dug into historical trends, human factors, and technology, seeking empirical evidence to validate our findings. Continual reassessment was key, ensuring we stayed agile in our quest for sustained improvement. This method helped us focus on critical areas for targeted enhancements.

Tools like brainstorming and benchmarking help select impactful changes while considering KPIs. Allocate resources wisely, mitigate risks, and train employees, focusing on KPI alignment.
