How can you use quality auditing to increase your organizational agility in automotive disruption?

In my experience, Quality auditing is like giving your quality management system (QMS) a thorough check-up. Your QMS includes all the rules and ways you do things to make sure your customers and stakeholders are happy. When you audit, you're checking if your QMS is working well, finding any problems, and figuring out how to make things better. Auditing also helps you make sure you're following all the right rules and laws. You can do audits with your own team or bring in outside experts to help. It's all about making sure your quality game is strong!

In my experience, Quality auditing has 3 dimensions viz. Systems, Process and Product. Any audit should always be considered as FACT finding and not FAULT finding exercise. Acceptance is an important ingredient for positive outcome of any audit, backed up by robust analysis and actioning with follow through. To monitor the levels of improvement and progress, reference point should be there as against internal stretch Target, competition, industry average and Benchmark levels.

Quality auditing serves both proactive and reactive roles by identifying gaps and mitigating risk. Quality auditing is a big concern which always makes sense about the existing condition is on track or needs some improvement. Based on the feedback some sustainable action or upgradation takes place which are always better than the existing condition. Audit findings give the opportunity to have a great brainstorming within the organisation/ stackholders/investor for a continual/continuous improvement by adopting or accepting culture.

In my experience after handling audits as an auditee or an auditor or observer of several standards like ISO 9001,14001,45001 & BS OHSAS 18001, SA8000, etc with 60 + in number, What I want to say on this topic is - To ensure agility through QMS - The organization or the policy makers has to frame the policies in agile and revise timely complying best practices of the industry ensuring facilities or infrastructure in terms of updated technology/Skills facilitation etc, which will enable the organization to generate goods or services which can compete in market with a heavy blow to competition and always ensure agile in the organization culture. Secondly the leaders at each level has to pad-up the team for handling failures & CI as DNA.

I think that to foster agile organization auditing should embrace an agile approach. Standard audit with end to end scope and/or wide checklist might result in addressing too many topics and not having a risk based approach. I would considered layered process auditing as very valid option for this purpose.

If the quality is not followed on organizations there are possible to lose the licence of accreditation, and dealing with laboratories the Audit entity have the responsibility to issue the letter demanding the laboratory to close because their not following the QMS

Based on my quality auditing experience, I suggest you to think about Risk Based Assurance. Risk based assurance is about structuring your auditing / assessment activities around key risks affecting the area under review and focusing efforts to determine whether key controls are in place and operating effectively to mitigate these risks. Where controls are not designed or operating effectively, the actual or potential significance (consequences and likelihood) is used to determine whether corrective and / or preventive actions are required. Risk based assurance will require you to think about what is most important and to consider management’s perceptions around this and to apply judgement around criticality.

Quality auditing is a process to verify how the organization set up their Quality system management giving importance on what the organization’s what to achieve considering all relevant interested parties, paying attention on verifying the identified risks and opportunities and generate the quality audit results that will add value to the products and services offered by the organization.

Las Auditorías de Calidad son procesos definidos con el objetivo de detectar posibles errores o incumplimientos (Observaciones) en el Sistema de Gestión de Calidad. Según mi experiencia son oportunidades de mejora, ya que en muchas ocasiones lo más efectivo para que se tomen medidas para solucionar los problemas es que dichos problemas sean identificados en forma de Observaciones en las Auditorías.

A good Quality Audit will simply ensure you're on the right path, but an excellent Audit can lead you to a better path, bringing to you new fresh ideas about how to re-imagine your old and inefficient processes and procedures, taking it to an upper break-through level of organizational efficiency.
