The Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office provides law enforcement and related services to all of the citizens of the county, including the municipalities of Concord, Harrisburg, Kannapolis, Midland and Mount Pleasant. Both Concord and Kannapolis operate police departments that provide primary law enforcement services to the citizens of those municipalities. The Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office provides supplemental services to these municipalities, when needed. Sheriff Van W. Shaw has been in office for 4 years and leads an authorized strength of 420 employees, compromised by sworn officers with full powers of arrest, detention officers, & civilians. There are also active auxiliary officers, made up mostly of retired officers. The Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office maintains the only detention center in Cabarrus County, which has a maximum jail population of 576 in the main jail, and and auxiliary facility on-site with a maximum population of 96, for a combined total of 672. Cabarrus County is a county located in the south-central part of the U.S. state of North Carolina, directly adjacent to Charlotte-Mecklenburg. As of 2021, the population estimate was 231,278.

Attention Midland Residents and Commuters: The NCDOT has reduced the speed limit on 24/27 between Sam Black Road and McManus Road to 45mph. The Sheriff’s Office wants to alert the motoring public to this reduction in an effort to gain compliance with this reduced speed limit to further prevent fatality and serious injury crashes along this heavily traveled roadway.
