Every performance elevation should including goals of the company, but also goals of the individual. If the individual strives to improve leadership skills, and that benefits overall corporate objectives then those skills should be listed more under personal performance goals but still tracked and discussed in performance evaluations. Many companies encourage and foster those that aspire to leadership with special leadership type programs which include additional or adjunct training.

Every leader I've ever had has heard me say it: I crave feedback. What am I doing great? What do I need to shore up on? Do you have any suggestions to make my work stand out? Here is an idea I have for my own development, do you think I'm going in the right direction? Feedback is interactive and helps leaders visualize the company strategy, which in turn helps them improve their teams effectiveness. Note important points and detailed examples so you can use them again later. This helps you understand better and makes it easier to make an action plan.

In my experience, SMART Goals are best achieved when you’ve taken the feedback you’ve been given into consideration and furthermore made created a plan to take the necessary steps to make improvements in the areas you are looking to improve upon. This takes intentional effort and an earnest desire to dig deeper into your self awareness. In order to produce a set of goals that not only help to support corrective measures, but moreover provide a solid framework that will promote effective and sustainable growth and self improvement. Change isn’t easy but it’s SMART and possible when you’re doing something that provides meaningful, tangible and realistic results.

Before reaching in such a high orbit its always better to evaluate the feeling and thoughts that one has for the team and for the assigned work. If a person is not in a good space due to lack of interest in the subject, pressure from the client or management, etc. One can't lead a team. Being passionate about work or a new project and thoughts are the primary criteria that one must first evaluate.
