In order to collaborate, one should have a strong online presence. Not just presence a profile which speaks our work. The projects which you have done, previous collaborations etc. Without a profile nothing moves forward. Profile shouldn’t be loaded with data but a brief description of your work, what you do, your future goals. Profile should reflect your professional personality. Keep posting your work on relevant platforms apart from just creating a profile. Don’t wait for some one to approach you by looking at your profile. Message, engage and comment on others work as well.

Building your profile is akin to estabilishing your brand. You want the marketplace to think of your brand when they have that specific need. Be sure you communicate consistancy across your various platforms; whether that be your website, your Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIN, and other social media platforms and community site page listings. Consistent look and feel, language/content used, images used, client recommenadations. Your business cards, promotional materials, your presentation, you (yes you, how you present and carry yourself is all part of your brand.) Your hashtags and keywords should be consistent across all properties. You want to convey that unfied brand message at all access points. Otherwise you confuse the marketplace

You might be surprised where you can find community, how you can build networks. They can be anywhere... local networking groups, Rotary etc. photo clubs, even local camera retailers- photogs gather, its like a clubhouse for likeminded. Build relationships. Ask to for introductions. Volunteer with pro bono work and all of a sudden you open up a new network. Always have your biz card ready, I meet people in so many different places. And odd places. Nonetheless, its about networking and building brand recognition. Asking for recommendations & peer-to-peer networking. Even in a large community with a number of shooters, find a way to make your brand stand out. Align with strong collaborators, share in their brand stream recognition.

Once building the profile, the next or parallel step would be finding collaborative communities to share your work. Find them on online spaces and check their veracity. We do this amazing thing where we email or call people. It's astounding how often is works (not very). We play the numbers game.
