Get an understanding of what their own goal is with respect to growth, at times there is confusion with respect to the path they want to chart. Work with them to identify the best course of action for them. High quality talent generally wants diverse experiences and learning opportunities. If you can offer them roles and progression across multiple functional streams they will value their stay in your organization. An individual who is getting opportunities to learn new skills and grow as a professional would be a low flight risk

Talent retention starts from day one… in other words, talents are always thinking about their future in your company/department, and they start charting their path right after their onboarding week. In my field, I always help my teammates to chart this path in total consistency with their expectations, this also means that no one can get what they want if it is not available in the company. Empathy here can work both ways, managers are close to their talents, listening and understanding their strengths and expectations, and talents are also close to their managers to understand what is possible and what is not. Sometimes talent retention is also important, by being clear and honest if there are no more perspectives for that talent/position.

Ideally to my perspective, Top Talent / H'Pots should never reach to the level of negotiation rather there experience to the organization should remain delightful and to reach to that level, the leader or we are an HR Partner should listen to them proactively and keep understanding their pulse and making a roadmap for them so that they become an example not just internally but become pillars to attract fresh talent to the organization.

Show the career growth with specefic way. And negotiate on career fostering which lead to skill and professional development.

At the same time, we need to analyze what we're offering, what the market is offering, and why the other person is making their demand. Building rapport n trust is very important among all. Most of the boxes are ticked at the time of hiring and after so much of hard work, we manage to get real talent and then if we are not able to build rapport n trust (so that employee can reach out to us in case of any problem or issue) then everything is a waste. With having right n positive rapport and trust, everything else can be managed and sorted, else very difficult to retain top talent once they made up their mind to leave

Ensure that you focus on what is of interest to them and the way to doing this is by having built trust prior to the time.
