How can you use MRP to streamline your new product development process?

Demorei a me acostumar com a sigla, a tradu??o livre do inglês para o português nos leva a achar que é algo simples, porém ao longo da minha experiência percebi que o mais difícil é ter as informa??es necessárias para se planejar demandas dos materiais de produ??o. O sucesso de um bom MRP é uma parametriza??o bem definida para matéria prima, insumos, embalagens, semiacabados e acabados. Nessa parametriza??o devemos conhecer: a hierarquia de prioriza??o; a capacidade de produ??o com seus ciclos (horas produtivas e n?o produtivas); capacidade de armazenamento, lead time, lote econ?mico, sazonalidade, tipo de suprimento, ciclo de venda, vida útil do material (shelf life), gargalos de produ??o e a capacidade de rea??o. Estoy de acuerdo con eso pero agregaria el tiempor de entrega del producto asi como el MOQ del mismo ya que son importantes para planear tu reaprovisionamiento

It's not a singular answer. By first creating prototype life cycle level part numbers in a PLM package (that may or may not be linked to the ERP system) and using the prototype BOM/part numbers/AVL info to drive MRP, the buyers will have what they need to support the development team. The longer term benefit is that this educates the buyers/planners on future products and will accelerate the prototype to pilot to volume production life cycle steps later on in the NPD process.

I don’t see how having MRP helps with New Product Development. Using a proper Change Management Process first then uploading the inputs into MRP would be beneficial

One challenge is ensuring that bills of material are complete. That's difficult when design and development takes place over a period of time. Inevitability there is a danger of things getting missed. The following has worked for me: Create a range of 'decision' part numbers; say ZC001 for customer decisions; ZD0001 for design decisions etc. Break these down further as required (eg ZDE001 for 'electrics' decisions. Add these part numbers to the BoM as it is developed. Now run a 'Where used' report to see where decisions are still required. You can also add lead times to these parts. If it's going to take 60 days to order in a motor, then that decision must be taken 60 days before build. Every MRP run gives reminder prompts. (No more space.)

We used prototype part numbers regularly in NPD, usually in the form of X12345. We started by using the part numbers and from that following our normal materials management processes?—?creating BOM's (X-BOM), PO's, Inventory stacking and recording. The development group had responsibility for engineering change control. As the product was finalized, control transferred to the regular engineering change control group. As individual parts and BOMS were released, new part numbers were added (x12335-> 12345) and any physical inventory were transferred to the new part number. A big value was to have the engineering materials in the system for visibility and allowed for prototype materials to be managed under control rather than externally

MRP has become integral for Material Management, Manual MRP helps to simulate and check results but if you have 1,000+ SKUs accurate cant be possible W/O MRP Live. In result of MRP Planned Production and Planned PR optimized manual working along with typo errors which result have hefty consequances in on-going operations.
