In my experience, humour is a great stress reliever. It creates a very positive and productive work environment and puts people at ease. Humour also creates lasting bonds between people and reinforces collaborative behaviour, fosters community and a sense of belonging. I've also seen humour as a catalyst for problem-solving and creativity.

Humor, when used thoughtfully, can create positive work environment: 1. Ice-breaking Humor: Light-hearted jokes or anecdotes can ease tension, encourage camaraderie, and break the ice during team meetings or discussions. 2.Inclusive Humor: Focus on universal topics or shared experiences that everyone can relate to. 3.Lead by Example: Leaders using self-deprecating humor or laughing at their mistakes create a culture that accepts imperfections and encourages openness. 4.Mindful Timing: Be mindful of the context and timing of humor. By incorporating tasteful humor into the workplace, leaders can create a welcoming atmosphere that promotes team bonding and fosters a sense of belonging for all employees.

Humor can be a great tool. It can be an ice breaker and a way to bring people together. But make certain that you know your audience. What is funny in one culture may be very unfunny in another. Never use “humor” that makes a joke at the expense of someone else or their beliefs.

Cracking Jokes on yourself helps because this works in the way the brain is designed 'to avoid pain and move towards pleasure'. You are not pointing at others so you avoid pain and then by others laughing you are at pleasure so this is a win-win by the brain standards.

Being able to share humour and laugh at ones self creates phycological safety in the minds of others, that they can make mistakes and it will be ok, that it's a place where you can speak up and won't be sacked. This breeds positivity and removes the hierarchical barrier some may perceive, allowing a more human inclusive workplace for people to look forward to.

It’s important to show and present camaraderie and uniformity; and this is one way to show your amicability. However, make sure you know what you’re doing and do not overdo it, anything overdone loses its purpose!:)

It's quite easy to get offended if you don't know how to take humor and jokes in the right manner.
