How can you use Google Docs for better writing?

You can blabber about anything and get it noted on doc. One trick I have used is: I read from my laptop and open Google doc on my phone to take notes. Once I am done with my notes, I edit them on laptop. This way I can see what I am typing, and this doesn't even deviate my focus from reading and note making.

Some options I find handy in Google docs. 1. Typing "@" opens a bunch of helpful tools. @Checklist @Dropdown @people @Date @EmailDraft 2. Ctrl + Shift + C opens the word counter and when you check the "Display wordcount while typing" it helps to keep an eye on the word count at the bottom left corner. 3. I also like the translation option. We recently arrived from Germany and we were dependent on this feature to translate so many documents we needed to sign off.

Adding helpful add-ons like Grammarly or Instatext is a time saver. There are a ton of add-ons in the workspace marketplace for Google Docs. AI and SEO add-ons are hot at the moment. And can help in content creation and ideation.

Also, two more features of Google Docs that I find very handy are: 1. Ability to use it across devices. I am able to switch mid-article from my phone to iPad or laptop, without losing a word, as the docs are autosaved. This makes things much easier as I am often on a move. 2. Ability to share the doc. I am able to share the document with my clients for their feedback and we are able to edit it together if needed. This again I find very useful. To share the document click on the Add People icon on top right and then fill in the email address of the contact/s you want to share it with. Here you may also set the rights to Viewing/commenting/editing for your contact.

We all use Google Docs in a browser and our choice of browser can make the whole experience better. I use Microsoft Edge to open Google Docs. There's a feature called Split Screen inside the browser itself, that allows me to browse other blogs while writing my own blogs in Google Docs. This also goes well with Vertical Tabs feature in Edge. Also, Edge has Bing AI built in, so whenever you're stuck writing in Google Docs, just hit the bing AI button and ask for suggestions. Recently, Google included it's Bard AI in Google Docs, making this easier than ever to write great content. Of course, it goes without saying this: we must all use AI responsibly and if you're a writer, you know exactly what I mean.
