In order to conduct gap analysis, four steps should be followed. First, collect and analyze data on your current workforce such as headcount, turnover, skills, competencies, performance, engagement, and satisfaction. This can be done through surveys, interviews, assessments, and reports. Second, establish a vision, mission, goals and objectives for your future workforce. Consider your strategic direction, market trends, customer expectations and competitive advantages when defining the skills and competencies needed to reach this desired state. Thirdly, compare your current state with your desired state to identify the gaps between them. This can be done through SWOT analysis, gap matrix or gap chart. Finally, develop action plans to close the gaps. Prioritize them based on urgency, impact and feasibility then define the actions needed to complete them as well as the resources required. Monitor and evaluate progress and outcomes of the action plans regularly.
