It is always very important to provide feedback this will help to solidify what you have taught participants. For example, I facilitated a workshop for agro tech business founders teaching them how to pitch and network, in preparation for their demo day . It was very important for me to hear them pitch, so I could give feedback on how they can improve their pitch. This made my session very interactive and I believe helped them learn better, due to the fact that they got practical examples and were able to learn from the feedback I gave .

I think experiential learning can be extremely useful in certain situations, like, forecasting. When the task requires an answer which can only be reached through a number of assumptions/estimates it’s difficult to teach this using typical methods. Last year I wanted my team to understand forecasting so everyone was tasked with coming up with a forecast for the week ahead, starting with a guess in week one. The following week they refined that guess using the data from the previous week. Each week the team would scrutinise their own forecast against the actual figures, slowly building an understanding of all the factors they needed to consider. Throughout the process there was a sense of competitiveness that kept the training engaging.

Depending on the nature of the conference, consider conducting field trips or site visits to provide personal experience with relevant surroundings or procedures. This can help to reinforce lessons and encourage conversation. Present real-life case studies related to the meeting topic. Here is how I used experiential learning with 70 volunteers. Often times organizational information such as structure chain of commands and other such subjects/topics are hidden behind the curtains from the volunteers. This causes a disconnect in the experiences of the volunteer. What helped reduce the gap was: 1) Walk in my shoe : The volunteers were asked to walk in the shoes of the organizers, put in various real world scenarios helped volunteers understand the behind the curtain aspects and also helped increase empathy. 2) Refreshing meeting styles: We love structure and uniformity hence we often end up eating at the same restaurant over and over again. Same goes with meetings - while structure remains changing the delivery helped.
