In my experience, resource planning is the backbone of operations. A continuous improvement culture fosters more synergies, collaboration and fine-tuning of resources.

It all starts with a vision and defining objectives in my opinion it's a way to craft that vision. Objectives must be defined based on clear feasible actions and because market is "people/companies", at certain point they'll move with standard what will help us see wether they're going far or close to the expected standard. This is where metrics comes in to help us track the defined route or make us open new path. Metrics should be checked constantly and if possible in a short time frame such as weekly depending on the cycle of the activities or effort needed to get to the objective.

That's one excellent point. Resource planning needs a constant check. You can't expect the plan to work like magic forever. Course-correction is important. But for that, you need to identify that your plan's astray. And to know that, you need to keep checking it regularly.

I believe that process review should be part of a business continuous improvement program covering all aspects of the business and being visible to all levels of the business. Including process and organizational metrics to provide a single consistent source of organizational and process data. The issues identified in the CI program should be reviewed and where appropriate included in the monthly, quarterly, or annual business review processes. Having an open CI process improves staff and stakeholder engagement as they can see their input is valued.

Implement models and tactics to track and adjust your planning process (and actually any process in project management). For example FuPan approach - Chinese term borrowed from chess which translates into replaying the chess board, or analyzing the moves so as to do better the next time.

Consider needed vs wanted metrics, KPIs, or measures. Discard unneeded measures in favor of agile or streamlined measurements.

SWOT or Pareto... There are tools, concepts that help you in planning your resources efficiently. But that shouldn't stop you from trying to find a better and accurate plan that suits your plan and work style.

continuous improvement thrives on feedback, and for that, embedding feedback into your culture is key. it's like nurturing a garden wherevfeedback is the water- essential and continuous. In this culture, everyone understands that feedback is not just helpful but necessary for growth and betterment.

My two cents here: 1. Killing vanity metrics/KPIs - Large enterprises and startups often track and monitor a large number of operational KPIs which become difficult to manage over time. I have seen support functions like HR and legal in both startups and large global enterprises having team strength of 30-50 globally have 200+ monthly KPIs to monitor and report to C suite! This does not make sense and makes actual reporting perfunctory. 2. Mistake proofing in technology - I have seen the adoption of this great framework has been more in manufacturing industry as compared to its successful use in software and technology industry. We have to focus on designs to show more alerts or warning messages to the users.
