To implement Continuous Flow, you must first identify your value stream by mapping out the steps and activities involved in creating and delivering your product or service to your customer. Next, eliminate any sources of waste, such as defects, overproduction, excess inventory, motion, transportation, waiting, and overprocessing. After that, optimize flow by designing your process to minimize the number of handoffs, batches, and buffers between steps, using pull systems, kanban cards, and visual signals to control the flow of work and avoid overloading the system. Standardize work by establishing clear and consistent procedures, instructions, and quality standards for each process step. Train and empower your workers to follow and improve them. Finally, measure and track your key performance indicators such as cycle time, throughput, quality, and customer satisfaction. Utilize feedback loops, problem-solving tools, and kaizen events to identify and implement improvements.
