How can you use BIM to control project costs?

To start with, it is important to make sure that everybody invoved in the project or at least contributing to the cost estimation has a common understanding of the objectives and derived requirements of the project. For this, BIM models are already very helpful since they make it easy to also visualise requirements. These requirement models should be very simple and therewith quickly interpretable by humans. Because like this, they can be used to build easy to understand and structured validation rules for requirement coordination and quality checking, to be able to understand and interpret the cost estimates. Traditional BIM is not very effective in managing project costs comprehensively. It can handle construction costs (if other criteria are met). I apologize if this upsets those who are enamored with BIM. However, the cost of the entire lifecycle of any architectural project is not limited to construction alone. The architectural design process necessitates the proper use of "abductive reasoning," where one must select the best-fitting alternative from a set of plausible designs. Ideally, project cost control should begin with the question: "Do we truly need to intervene and actually create something here?" i.e from a very early stage onward!
