Learning through interactive experience and own insights is the deepest, most powerful way of learning. And making it a game makes total sense neurologically, for two reasons: 1- Research shows that memories become more deeply rooted when attached to an emotion, in this case joy and excitement. 2- Everyone of us was a child once, and that's when our brains were wired to absorb and learn at their best. Playing a game is connecting with our inner child, and telling the brain to enter that mode once more.

3 How to choose agile games?

When deciding on an agile game for your learning context, it's important to consider the learning objectives, the audience, the format, the duration, and the resources. Ask yourself what you want your learners to know, do, or feel after the game. Consider who your learners are in terms of their backgrounds, roles, levels, interests, and needs. Also think about how you will deliver the game—online or in-person? Synchronously or asynchronously? Individually or in groups? And determine how long the game will take and what materials and tools are needed—and how much they cost and how easy they are to access and use. There are many agile games available online or in books, or you can create your own.

If you decide to create your own agile game, it’s important to ensure it is effective and engaging. To do this, you should first define the learning objectives and choose the game mechanics. Additionally, you should test and iterate the game with a small group of learners or peers, collect feedback, and prepare the materials. Finally, you should facilitate the game by introducing it to the learners, running it, and debriefing it. When doing so, make sure to manage the time, energy, and dynamics of the game accordingly.

I recommend the game having a physical element to be manipulated. That can be balls, Legos, hats, papers, playdough, markers, etc. This raises engagement and is more inclusive of some audiences, like kinestesic people (NLP reference)

Facilitating agile games is not just about explaining the rules and monitoring the progress; it is also about creating a positive and productive learning atmosphere where learners feel comfortable, curious, and challenged. To do this effectively, you should set the stage by explaining the purpose, objectives, and expectations of the game. Establish ground rules for participation and interaction, and provide any necessary information or guidance. During the game, observe and listen to the learners, providing encouragement, feedback, or assistance as needed. Ask open-ended questions to stimulate thinking and discussion, and resolve any conflicts or issues that may arise.
