There are very few times in our working life where we can honestly enjoy the gift of time without guilt or paranoia of "what am I not thinking about that I should be" feelings about work. Now is one of those times! Maximize the emotional, mental, physical and spiritual opportunities to connect with yourself, gain clarity over who you are and who want a thriving to become, and then hit the ground running in your transition. But take this time as a gift- use it for YOU!

This article focuses on when you've decided to make a transition to a new profession. I'd like to add that there are several more transition phases. Each has specific steps and varied time allotments needed for success, below are a few more areas to consider. 1. Filling professional & personal gaps before you start looking for the next career. 2. Leaving the current job on good terms, finishing current projects. 3. Creating succession plans (if applicable). 4. Developing new co-worker relationships. 5. Getting the new team that you supervise to trust and adopt your leadership vision. 6. Creating cross-departmental or division alliances. 7. Conducting new assessments and evaluations. This by no means is an exhausted list.

Support work-life Balance. Recognize the importance of work-life balance during career transitions. Encourage employees to manage their time effectively, set realistic goals, and maintain a healthy balance between work and personal life.

Two things that have made a big impact on my career which would fit into the 80/20 Pareto model. 1) Getting two HR certifications (SPHR & SHRM-CP) 2) Keeping my LinkedIn profile up to date and active The certifications were not easy as I had to take timed tests of 175 questions each. Bit of a nail biter! I studied hard for about 4 months each and passed. It was good for my confidence and shows employers I know my stuff. Staying active on LinkedIn and updating little by little has been very helpful and not time consuming. In the last 10 years my certifications have gotten me some great visibility and I have gotten my last 4 roles from LinkedIn. It works!
