2 How to use the 5 Whys technique?

The 5 Whys technique can be used to identify the root cause of a problem. Begin by defining the problem concisely. Ask "why" the issue is occurring and write down the answer. If the answer does not reveal the root cause, ask "why" again and write down the next answer. Repeat this process until you reach the root cause or until asking "why" does not produce a useful answer. When you have identified the root cause, suggest and implement solutions to address it and stop the problem from recurring. For example, if a pest infestation is causing yield problems, one solution could be to learn and follow recommended pest control guidelines and monitor the crop regularly for signs of infestation.

Taking a deep look at the 5 why's may sometimes require further analysis as agriculture is a deeper chain vs some manufacturing and there are certain factors truly out of our control such as weather patterns. But the items we cannot control we have to ask what risk mitigation controls do we have and are we keeping those controls up to date.
