Promote a culture of respect and transparency coupled with feedback mechanisms, to help build the trust among the teams 4. Appreciate and celebrate wins, be it small or big. This is key as at times, we are heads down delivering results and forget to celebrate success. Taking time to appreciate the team boosts the team morale and reinforces the value of team work

We tend to assume that once the message has been sent, it is the receiver's responsibility to understand and take the appropriate action. However, this is only one part of the story. Meaning, as Edgar Schein quoted in his book about "Humble Leadership", it is necessary for leaders to travel psychologically in the context of relationships. As a leader, I must be able to adapt and change my leadership style to suite the individual needs in my team, but that should not introduce a culture of niceness over inclusion. Hence, I must clearly draw a line between niceness and inclusion, and create a process for sharing critical feedback as part of my leadership style. I could also seek a direct feedback from my team members about how they feel within the team, and their thoughts about leadership.

Feedback given should be specific, timely and focused on deliverables, behaviors and improvement areas with examples.

The outcome is the value that we deliver to our customers and stakeholders, the impact that we make on their lives and businesses. The output is the product or service that we create to achieve that outcome. By defining and communicating a clear and compelling outcome, we can inspire and motivate our teams to work together towards a common vision, regardless of their differences. We can also measure and celebrate our progress based on the outcome, not the output. This way, we can create a culture of learning and experimentation, where teams are empowered to find the best solutions for their customers, and where feedback and adaptation are encouraged.

Clearly communicate the shared values to all team members and stakeholders. and as a leader, demonstrate these values in your actions and decisions .Integrate the values into team processes, rituals, and ceremonies.

In transitioning ecosystems, due to overflowing backlogs and too many priorities, it is often quite difficult to create such a culture. Leaders need to experiment enough to identify what is blocking teams from collaborating and remove those impediments to unify diverse agile teams

In my experience when I was an Agile coach for a large banking client, we had many diverse teams in a Scaled Agile setting ( Part of Agile Release Train) by integrating engaging, hands-on activities that underscore Agile principles - 1.Conducted Lego workshops and problem-solving games, enhancing cross-team collaboration and innovation. 2. Role-swapping exercises and Agile Anti-Pattern Skits also played a key role, offering team members fresh perspectives on their colleagues' challenges and workflows. 3. By fostering an environment of mutual understanding and continuous learning, we strengthened team synergy and embraced the Agile spirit of adaptation

Diverse agile teams are a challenge to unify, but it's a thrilling one! I've found that celebrating differences, not minimizing them, is key. For instance, during a recent retrospective, we had a "Cultural Show & Tell" where team members shared traditions or foods from their backgrounds. It was a hit – we bonded over laughter and newfound appreciation. Also, rotating team leadership roles can empower everyone and foster a sense of ownership. It's messy, it's imperfect, but it's so rewarding when it clicks.

Lead by example -not just in the big things but also the little things every day - being fair, non-judgemental,non biased. And this applies not just to the leaders, but everyone in the team- coz every team member has a role to play in enabling a positive team environment. Your actions must follow your words in creating that inclusive environment with psychological safety - where diverse teams feel comfortable to come together instead of being pitched and compared with each other.

Actually the one tool I found that contributes to all the above is conducting a Value stream workshop bringing everyone to the table in delivering a specific value. During this workshop everyone aligns on the process, channels, people and information flow. Through extended disagreements and discussions people start focusing on the value not the process, they start building perspectives across the value stream building trust. Understanding the different roles, responsibilities and challenges throughout the value stream diversifying their awareness of the different functions in delivering specific value and all of this is done through collaboration.
