Consider acquiring suitable experience and abilities if you want to move from serving customers to managing a restaurant. Seek out leadership positions, such as communication and organising abilities, and become knowledgeable about restaurant operations. Additionally, enrol in management courses and let your present company know that you're interested in moving up the corporate ladder. Developing a close relationship with coworkers and exhibiting initiative will increase your chances of advancing into a managing position.

Before any person takes up a managerial position it is important to completely understand the role and gain leadership qualities. Working with a mentor could help a lot and communicate your interest to take up a senior level role to contribute towards the success of the restaurant. Acquire important skills by working in different areas of the restaurant and build a relationship with staff. Emphasize your commitment to excellent customer service and network a lot by attending industry events, network with professionals, and stay informed about industry trends. Improve your communication skills and look out for internal job postings as it may give you an advantage since you are already familiar with the establishment and this is an asset.

You will not only need to watch and learn from current management, but also every other position around you. As manager, you will need to train and/or fill in for every position at one time or another as well as have enough occupational knowledge to be able to handle problems as they arise. Training and development of your staff is one of the most important and rewarding parts of management. It is an ongoing process that can not be neglected if you want your business to be highly successful. Make the training effective by making it mildly challenging, team oriented, and fun. I’ve personally used something called “Server Olympics” to keep things fun and interesting. Physical and mental competitions that focus on server duties done as individuals and teams with winners receiving prizes, usually promo items from distributors. One that is always fun is a server relay race where servers transport water filled plastic cups through an obstacle course. Best times minus any spillage are used to calculate winners. Same with large trays.

Don't be afraid to diversify your restaurant experiences. Put yourself in different situations and restaurants early on at the start of your career. Having a diverse food service background will better serve you when dealing with new and difficult situations.

In preparing yourself for this role try to observe and learn from successful managers and mentors by seeking guidance and feedback to improve your managerial skills.

Showing a genuine interest in the overall will gain experience on personal level and good reputation in your workplace

To show initiative for the managerial role, you have to demonstrate leadership qualities and a proactive attitude by taking on additional responsibilities and projects. And also demonstrate a quality of change and adaptability.

Algumas vezes presenciei promo??es só porque o colaborador n?o faltava, sim ele tinha o conhecimento da opera??o, mas n?o tinha maturidade para gerir uma equipe. Para ser um Gerente ele precisar ter conhecimento básico de controles, saber tomar decis?es para n?o atingir seus clientes. Claro que envolve mais qualifica??o para fazer o gerenciamento, como garantir produtos- equipamentos e pessoas de acordo com seu índice de produtividade e headcount. E certamente nesses casos perderam excelentes profissionais por falta de percep??o ou comodidade dos gestores.

A post-shift review is a great way to communicate with your staff. Managers should type up a short report that advises staff about the pitfalls of the previous shift to be handed out before the next shift. Servers can write in suggestions and explanations to the events. No names required. Manager should post relevant and insightful replies on the cork board in the break area. This has been a tremendously effective tool in the development of my staffs in multiple locations. When your staff feels heard and recognized, it will keep them invested in growing.

A hardworking individual is a good asset to the team but to be a great asset to the team you need to know the processes listed in this section. Work hard and smart not just hard.

The best way to be "prepared" is to be calm and present confidence to your team. NEVER let a bad situation become worse by letting the situation get the best of you. Being the "calm" in the middle of the "storm" people will generally gravitate to you and look for your leadership. No matter your level of preparation without confidence and a sense of direction your team will struggle.

Uma coisa que venho notando, n?o temos m?os de obras qualificadas como a uma década atrás. O mercado está super aquecido e os desafios gerenciais est?o cada dia maiores . A falta de iniciativa, selecionar as prioridades e garantir boas opera??es depende diretamente do Gerente. O grande erro muitas vezes está nas contrata??es, portanto n?o tenha pressa para fazer essa escolha, seu resultado depende de experiências.

A strong floor manager will touch all tables to help keep the guests relaxed during busy times. He/she can get a feel for the needs of the guests with a few simple questions and answers. Anticipating special circumstances will greatly enhance your guests experience(ie; birthday, anniversary, or promotion). Be hands-on with your assistance to your server(carry their tray or prepare their tray stands). If water needs refilled, just do it. Soda refills, get on it. This really helps continuity of service with groups of 6 or above.

One important element to remember: in many places entry level or early management will immediately make less money while working more hours. The manager will be in the restaurant finishing paperwork long after most staff have gone home, and will often arrive before the first team members. If you are considering taking the challenge on, set up savings in advance to give you time to adjust to a different income and cost of living.

In my experience you should focus on leadership skills,financial,customer service,time management,adaptability, A proactive mindset and attitude will be an added value for a transition into a restaurant management role
