Make sure you really want to be a Sales Manager. You will be going from being in control of, and rewarded for, your accomplishments to being judged on how well your team does. There is nothing wrong with deciding to make a career as a Sales Executive; professionally or financially. If Sales Management is your path, see if your company will let you shadow a proven, successful sales manager at your company, for 90 days. That will give a you a lot of insights. Also, study the Sales Management role. There are plenty of resources on LinkedIn and other platforms where you can learn and grow.

I will give you my personal experience as a salesman and how I went from a sales person to a manager. It’s a car salesman job is where I started. I was fresh out of the military. Luckily I was in a role of a training NCO and reenlisting NCO and drug consultant NCO. For a HH company of over 500 soldiers. So as a young man of 20 I had a lot of experience of talking to men. I never thought that it would make my career of automotive sales easier but it did. I was trained to have a drive in life with out even knowing. I was able to talk to Generals the same as a private. No difference between the two but the one with brass on his collar had to be handled differently. So I can honestly say that the Army took me from a salesman to a manager.

The transition may take time to happen. Be patient, stay committed to your goals, and continue building the skills and experiences that make you a strong candidate for a sales management position. Consider mentoring, demonstrating leadership in your current role, and Developing a solid understanding of the business and educational opportunities.

Entering the position of selling management from a selling position requires thorough planning due to a lack of experience. Understanding and identifying what past managers did and didn't do well will help you figure out what actions drove success and which ones drove disengagement, which will give you a start to how to manage effectively.
