How can you tailor your UED analytical reasoning portfolio for different audiences?

From my experience, before you spruce up your portfolio, know your audience first. Are you job hunting, wooing a client, or showcasing to peers? Tailor your content to fit their familiarity, goals, and style. Research their needs, motivations, and hurdles. It'll make your portfolio hit the right chords!

One thing that I was told by some very experienced UX leaders in the industry was to treat your portfolio as a UX case study. Think of it as one of the projects you are working on and apply all the UX skills required. As a UX designer you will cater a lot of different users and your portfolio will be the gateway to showcase your work. Knowing your Audience has to be the first step for everything you do as a UXer. To design something does not mean to just come up with wireframes and prototypes, it has to start with the context of "Why and for Whom?".

In my understanding, knowing your audience means showcasing your strengths and precision. In job applications, focusing on my problem-solving and attention to detail has been key. When pitching to clients, I emphasize the tangible outcomes of my designs to highlight their impact and value.

Customise your portfolio to showcase projects that matter most to each group. For clients, show how your work drives results. For peers, detail your methods. For recruiters, highlight your contributions. Keep it simple and user-focused for everyone else.

Knowing your audience also beings by understanding what about yourself are you representing/showcasing here? Why would someone want to view your portfolio? - If you're applying for a job, the focus should be about the process and the accuracy of the steps taken. - If this is to pitch something to a client, your analysis should speak about results and the impact made. However, these aren't mutually exclusive. The higher the seniority of your position, the more impact you'd need to show, regardless of being a job application or a creative professional.

This makes the portfolio much more digestible and engaging for the viewer.

No one will say this but visuals are important but if they don’t make sense, there’s no use in putting the product out. I cant stress how important it is to make the user engaged, but also make sure the user UNDERSTANDS!

(its never in the job description) You don't know the current composition of the team, what strengths and weakness are currently present. So the best thing you can do is to wow them with story telling or showcase something in your portfolio that's very different from the thousands they have seen which will make it difficult for them to pass up on you.
