How can you tailor a mentoring program for maximum impact on project team members?

In my view, mentors in companies are crucial for motivation. I myself always take time to train our leaders. They really appreciate that. In my view, it is very important to mix theory with practice when coching. I always interact with my team during presentations on this topic. I will strongly advice to allow flexibility in the mentoring program to accommodate the diverse needs of team members. Some may benefit from formal, structured sessions, while others may prefer a more informal approach. Flexibility ensures the program is accessible and valuable to everyone.

The starting point is to establish a clear cut framework for every team member to build on. A method to train their brains to become who they want to be. A method for each individual to become who they desire to be & that commonly accepted framework must work on the constant spaced re-evaluation of the team culture. A practical processes for individual and team improvement. If there’s no commonly agreed method for systematic personal and team improvement then too many variables will slow meaningful progress. Establish that process then true learning will be effective, both for the individual and for the team. This is about becoming aware of how we think, what we believe, behave and our individual self image & that of the team/organisation.

What I have noticed over the last few years is the importance of soft skills and hard skills. Hard skills can be acquired with discipline. Some soft skills are personality traits. Some of these cannot be changed. It took me a long time to recognize their importance.

I noticed, during my career journey, that it is useful to schedule regular check-ins not only between mentors and mentees but also between program coordinators and participants. This helps in addressing any concerns promptly and ensures that the program is on track.

Don't forget to foster a culture of continuous learning within the team. You have to encourage team members to view the mentoring program as part of their professional development and a means to enhance their skills and knowledge.
