I actually agree with this one. The basics are what you will use more than anything. You learn how to use something simple and then grow it because I have forgotten to do things when I was first getting started like use "ls -la" in any directory I'm checking on a compromised machine. Promise I wasted time or missed stuff.

Having a specialization within Cybersecurity definitely has a advantage. Organizations want a robust security posture along the length and width of their operations and a niche skilled professional not only has a advantageous position but adds more value to his field of work.

Por lo general, todo lo que tiene que ver con la seguridad preventiva suele ser una buena puerta de entrada para introducirse en el sector aunque los más jóvenes prefieren el Red Team. Lógicamente, las empresas invierten mucho más en servicios de Blue Team que en Red Team y por lo tanto el nicho de mercado es mayor. Con el tiempo, la evolución de los perfiles les lleva a migrar a otras especialidades de la ciberseguridad como la forense o la propia ingeniería social, si entendemos que las personas siempre serán el eslabón más débil de la cadena.

Most incidents happen because people aren't taking the time to do the basics well. Gymnasts don't rush straight into techniques with a 9.9 degree of difficulty until they can actually do the basics over and over and over and over again, without having to think.
I'd also add that attending conferences can be very valuable. Not only will you hear relevant topics, but you will be able to network and find acquaintances that may be able to offer valuable insight.

These labs are almost step by step on how to do exploits and learn more about operating systems that you may not be as familiar with. There are a lot of free sites out there that you can access that will allow you to hone your skills or at least practice in a real-time sandbox.

As I mentioned previously, the other way to get "skilled up" is to find a mentor in the space you want to go into. Mentorship can accelerate your learning and provide guidance on real-world challenges. The can provide insight into the industry and potentially open up their network. I have had many mentors from both my company and externally to my company. They provide insight into topics I am either (1) interested in learning more about or (2) had not idea existed. Often the topics that I had no idea existed are the most valuable as they help my accelerate my career both professionally and personally.

In order to really excel at cyber security / cyber threat intelligence. - Never assume always deduce based on learnings and with proofs. - Be open to new perspectives and learnings. - Be quick to learn and implement things practically to face unknown technical topics every day - Learn to communicate both verbally and in written manner. - Always try to think from attackers perspective. - Please learn on managing stress and prioritising mental health. - Learn to get challenged and change perspective when proven wrong without taking it personally or getting offended. Most important — remember it is a marathon not sprint. Take enough amount of rest and sleep well.

You’ve got to want the work not just the dream. Succeed suggests there is an end point, if you genuinely enjoy what you do then great there is no right or wrong approach here other than having a genuine curiosity and thirst for learning. Key elements that will separate you from the crowd include : 1. Removing ego from problem solving. It doesn’t have to be you that solves the problem it just has to be the best solution. 2. Not assuming degrees or acronyms are the only way to get knowledge. Yes starting out these are important but focusing on them too much will likely constrain your thinking. 3. Learning to understand not to recite, you often need tools to solve problems not facts.

If you can't explain the business value of your work, you need to start looking in to why you do what you do. If the answer is "because XYZ regulation requires it" or "the ABC framework lists it in the top 10" then you are working in compliance not security.
