I have found reading aloud to be extremely effective in proofreading the final text. Because I'm a fast reader, I find the text-to-speech tools are a little slow for me, however, reading work aloud at my own pace works well.
I agree! Reading aloud is helpful, particularly for short marketing copy, when you need phrases and sentences to sound "round". This has to do a bit with the way sonnets are composed, with cadence and accentuation always in mind. Also, in some of the text-to-speech tools Ive used, there is the option to speed up or slow down the speech speed. Being a fast reader is of course an advantage, as enjoining what you do is!

I received an assignment in 2022 from the deputy editor of a publisher to edit a business book, my 12th book for the company. I returned the document two days early and was paid for the work. Then I was emailed the proofreader's notes and was told I missed a lot. Of course, I can't believe I overlooked copy that needed editing. That's not me. I'm meticulous. What I learned is to use all the days I have before deadline and take my sweet ol' time with the document. Never try to impress your publisher that you can be a fast editor. My problem now is that I've had no work from the publisher since then and I have what I call editor's block, the fear of rejection if I ask for a new assignment.
