Verifying the network name is moot as that's easily forged. Also, the typical coffee shop Wi-Fi with a shared password doesn't buy any real security when compared to an open one. The best advise is to use HTTPS for everything (browsers support HTTPS-only modes now) and have your DNS traffic protect by using DNS over TLS or DNS over HTTPS.

One of the best advise for passwords is to use a password manager that can generate and remember passwords for you. Humans are bad at generating/remembering strong passwords.
