Don't be fooled by the low hanging fruit approach because that will only lead to rotten fruits for the big picture. Best approach is to build a context for the data model by creating a Business Function Model which looks ate only the "What" the business is supposed to be doing. Ignore the How and with which technology.

Go back to the old methodologies which actually helped do the analysis, for example, Oracle CASE Method by Richard Barker. Read the Books or publications by Dr Paul Dorsey and David Hay.

Contrary -- Database Development should not be done by a Team. Collaborate only so far as to get insights into how the business uses the data/information and not on what should be an Entity. Do not fall for a particularly favoured data modelling approach like Kimball
