If you want your body to be healthy and in shape, you workout. Similarly if you want your mind to stay sharp as a developer you should indulge it in problem solving exercises. The mindset should not be to solve any or every problem thrown at you in an interview but to have an approach or thought process that can eventually crack every problem. Platforms like LeetCode, HackerRank and AlgoExpert are all a developer needs to hone their critical thinking skills. Also, being vocal and breaking down the problem verbally in an interview is really crucial. It would bring no good to anyone if you've written the most optimized algorithm for a problem but you were quiet the entire time.

I've sat on a serious number of web development interviews and one of the biggest misconceptions is that knowledge on compute is underemphasized. During my time at Amazon I watched FEEs and web devs drop left and right at the sight of more backend-typical questions while breezing through, say, react hooks. Over time the profession is going to mature; right now its the wild wild west and qualifications are somewhere between non-existent and equivalent to SDE interviews. Know your audience, know whats required, and be ready to defend some big O notation!

Explain how you quantify the result. If possible, explain the achievement and lessons learned from the experience

When answering a question, don't just provide the answer. Your thought process is equally, if not more, important. Explain the steps you are going through and always clarify why. This will give the interviewer a chance to evaluate your problem-solving abilities and your ability to communicate your ideas effectively. If your reasoning is sound, it won't matter if the final answer is incorrect.

Interviews = No Pain , No Gain. If you are a stalwart, you can crack each question effectively. But there are situations where you are finding it difficult to answer a particular question. Its advisable not to panic in such situations, take a deep breathe and start tackling the problem slowly. Understanding the problem is the 1st step towards solving it. Hence collaboratively start by writing the solution and conveying your steps to the interviewer. If you are stuck at a point, you may seek help or suggest a rough approach you are thinking to take. Believe me more you talk out your solution, the more the interview becomes a healthy two way discussion and you wont regret Not knowing the solution at the first place.

Do not be scared to admit that you at the moment never faced such problem and you need a few minutes to think about it in silence. Everyone is wired differently and not everyone can think out loud immediately. Even if internally thinking that you are f-ed try to solve the problem to the best of your abilities and never let the hands down. At the end, even if you think that you failed it, ask for a solution or at least a path to it. Every interview should be a learning.

I've had my fair share of interview experiences where I left the room utterly disappointed in myself. It's okay. It happens to every developer. It's a part of the process. There is a lot of trial and error in this process and it humbles you as well. However, it would be unfair to yourself if you knew what you did wrong but didn't do anything about it. As unacceptable as it may sound, getting rejected is crucial for success in this journey. Every setback in this process will be a learning opportunity. Assess yourself after every interview and double down on improving your shortcomings. Not only would it boost your confidence but it would make you a better software engineer as well.

It is also important to recognise patterns for example if the interviews constantly ask about certain technologies that you are not aware of, this would be important to learn since it is heavily adopted and utilised. It might not be required to know the ins and outs of the topic but understanding at a high level helps with interviews and business understanding.

What's gone is gone but, not knowing how to correct it going forward, is sad. Either its a bad day that, you might be knowing but not able to correctly answer; or its an area you are lacking in. Thank the previously overcome bad interview & learn from it for the new ones. Not all what you prepared will be applicable to the asked questions, hence keep calm & accept the rejection as a step towards your advancement. Next time, you should focus on more on those areas where you lacked previously & add more to your knowledge for the upcoming interviews/ work tasks. Taking feedback from the interviewer helps too. Maintain a healthy conversation during the interview & ask a doubt if its challenging your concepts. Practice more than reading.

A cool way is to take a case/project where you worked, and write some topics about the main challenges. This way, it is possible to construct a narrative in an objective way, where you can clearly convey the message in three main points: What was the project? What is the main challenge? How was it resolved? The latter is where you will mention the technologies, decision-making and your role in the project.

Not having any questions at all can make it seem like you either do not care or are not diligent enough to identify important questions to ask. Both of which are not good signals to send.
