It’s funny, I say “know your audience” almost every day. This is one of those subjects where it is critical! Everyone on your team is different, I can’t stress enough how much this matters when strategizing management. Some people yearn for involvement and some just want to punch the clock. That’s okay, everyone has value. If you truly want to unlock that value and inspire your team you HAVE to earn their trust. Sharing power and responsibility is a way to build that trust.

As a team leader, I initiated weekly tea/coffee breaks for colleagues to discuss issues and share information. During these breaks, team members identified problems, contributed ideas, and brainstormed solutions. This fostered a collaborative culture of communication, trust, respect, and mutual support, enabling us to solve complex problems effectively.

Do you know why most of the organisations are focusing on D&I? If I have to answer in simple words, it’s for varying perspectives and innovative ideas. But do you know how would you leverage them? It’s when we give our teams the accountability for their tasks. When we trust them and let them drive the meetings. I always ensure having a RACI model in place for action tracking and then give freedom to the team to have the power to make the decisions that are under their scope. Believe me, mistakes can be rectified if worked together. This approach has always helped me fostering a collaborative culture and 360 degree reviews from the team.
