How can you remain a competitive E-Learning professional?

To stay competitive in E-Learning, regularly update your knowledge by staying informed on industry trends, tools, and best practices. Read blogs, listen to podcasts, attend webinars, and join online communities to connect with other professionals. Continuous learning and networking are key to remaining at the forefront of the field.

Find the information first, but it's worth nothing without trying. Learning in this sphere is no different from the others. That's what I do: 1) I set up a system of minimal reading on the topic per week - 30 minutes per day at my unproductive slots. I collect articles/sources during the week and just pick one or two for this time. 2) Saved 2 hours for new tools – I'm trying one at least once in two weeks. The slot is saved in my Calendar. And this is a Priority, not the last one in a row of tasks. I never give it to any meeting (unless it's a fire, which in most cases is not). 3) I look through LinkedIn vacancies of my profile in my top-list companies to see their requirements. If there are some terms/tools I haven't tried - I add them.

Staying competitive in the E-Learning field means keeping up to date with the latest trends and with emerging technologies. Unfortunately I do not have the funds, nor time, to attend international conferences, so part of my weekly work routine is to listen to selected podcasts, read posts by specialists in the field I follow, watch You Tube videos, buy key books and attend free webinars. In addition I take any opportunity I can to try out new technologies or approaches at work by persuading business leaders to green light pilots and evaluations of technology we think has the potential to add real value.

One of the responsibilities of a professional is CPD. Getting feedback and peer reviews is so important. You can immerse yourself for hours forgetting the Learner Experience or overthinking it. So having QA and Peer Reviews is so essential. I now love feedback as this is how I stretch and grow my skills and find new software tools to develop my skills.

Leveraging LinkedIn is a great way to develop your professional brand. I recommend following/connecting with other professionals in the industry, participating in different forms/discussions, and broadcasting your wins.

I'll suggest equally important as "competitive" is "connected." Here's why. You don't necessarily need a brand, but you can be active in building your network by being helpful, informative, and inquisitive. You do this on social media, conferences, local professional meetings, discussion and topic boards(i.e reddit), and anywhere people gather. You don't have to be an expert, you can connect with people by asking questions, commenting, and joining conversations. Of course, as you gain experience, what you post and how you engage will improve, expand, and go deeper. This starts to define you as an expert. And that keeps you, not only competitive but highly marketable.
