I object to point 2. The use of PPE is regarded as the least effective health and safety measure (not the most effective) and as such you should do all you can to minimise the use of PPE. Effectively PPE is a measure of last resort that should only be specified if you can't make things safe enough in other ways. Never look at the end of a fibre if you don't know where the other end is. There's no point in any case! Only way to look at a fibre end safely is a fibrescope or similar. NOT an optical microscope!!

I've always outfitted my techs with Fiber Optic Laser Safety Glasses. They have different lambda depending upon application. 800nm to 1700nm, and so on. Good SOPs to make sure they turn off the TX before breaking any connections and scoping. Etc.

not only protecting your eyes are omportant but ingesting fiber be it through skin moth or nose can be bad..it is invisible on x ray and can end up in your blood stream. manage any lose fiber and dispose of same. most definitely use appropriate eye protection and ensure you are working on inactive fibers as the lasers can also hurt your eyes.

I know it is irrelevant since all are expertise in this field ,but I have seen the more the accidents occurred to the highly experienced technicians rather than the newcomers. 2. Proper cleaning of working premises . Often these fibers when they are exposed in open places may have chances to get carried away during wind and can land in various places. Since they are transparent and small in size it will be hard to notice and stray animals or our pet animals may swallow it or get in contact with them and can seriously affect them . Same with humans.

In my experience some important measures to be taken in order to avoid risk of injury . 1.Safety gloves and glasses to wear to protect from any fiber particles or debris entering toward eye ??? or affect on hands to prevent skin irritation. 2. In addition to that should avoid direct contact if handling bare fiber should use proper tool like tweezer . 3. Clean Work environments in another consideration point . 4. Proper training and knowledge How are you to handle carefully. 5. Should have kit of eye wash for regular cleaning .
