Stakeholders is any person who is getting or can get directly/indirectly affected by the activity and in this case here the IT audit. Obviously it starts from top i.e. Board of Directors, senior management, IT leaders, the heads of various business units which are getting audited, the internal audit department if the audit is external this time, the internal risk assessment and IT teams. Besides this what sometimes gets left out is the third party vendors and partners, we need to include their inputs as well as they are also affected equally like any other internal stakeholder. Few important things which i have experienced and gets missed out in IT audit projects are the Shadow IT, the impact of the new technologies getting introduced, the risks due to third party vendors, the need to pay attention on the privacy of data, need for business continuity, mobile devices as well as cloud utilisation aspects etc. The most important is the need to pay attention to the weakest link i.e. we the humans and the audit should consider how training, awareness, behaviour is leading to the IT security.

Deviations must be addressed quickly to keep the project on track and achieve success. Finally, the implementation of corrective measures and actions and ensure continuous monitoring to address any concerns identified. My experience has allowed me to use this approach to ensure effective closure of the project and improvement of the security and efficiency of IT systems.
