Safety is a really important consideration here. We are working with moving equipment, often in a dangerous environment and by focusing on the instrument and the readings it gives, we are distracted. So, it is really important to ensure all safety considerations are taken care of and are in place. I have personally experienced and seen several instances where the person doing the survey would trip over something they would normally see or step back and bump against moving equipment they would normally stay away from. All due to the pre-occupation with the instrument and it's readings.
