Most importantly be empathetic and ensure that the mentorship program doesn't turn into a marketing campaign to feed the mentor's ego and profile. You should ensure that people truly benefit from it.

Prepare for your meetings with your mentor and demonstrate that you respect their time. With some of my mentors I like to send them a mini-agenda in advance so they can focus on those points during our session. With other mentors, they prefer more fluid discussions. I also prepare, but I don't send it to them in advance - I just guide them through the topics. I expect the people I mentor to prepare and let me know how I can best support them during our time together. I can't think of anything more rewarding than to watch someone grow through mentoring sessions.
