This is time in lifecycle of the product where you can utilize all the state of the art features available to enhance the safety features to produce responsibily for lifetime of product. With inherently safer designs you can eliminate / substitute/ Engineer the perceived risk and contribute in lifetime of safe operation. Entrepreneurs world over try to optimize the product engineering sacrificing inherently safer designs and end up taking substantial business risks .One can do a Cost Benefit analysis before choosing an optimal design. Obviously this approach takes more time for design phase but it is time well spend .Remember it is always 20 weeks of design ,20 months of Project phase and 20 years of operation.

Design for safe work should always be the goal for any type of manufacturing company. There are so many hazards that can be prevented in the design phase. Elimination is the ultimate opportunity to prevent injuries from ever occurring. This also contributes to closing the vast gaps and varying needs of generational group differences.

In my experience, ensuring safety in food manufacturing demands a comprehensive engineering approach. The first step involves a meticulous risk assessment to identify and prioritize potential hazards. Automation and robotics are instrumental, particularly in handling repetitive or hazardous tasks, reducing human exposure to risks. Incorporating sensors, alarms, and emergency stop systems enhances real-time monitoring and response capabilities. Physical safeguards like guards and barriers, alongside stringent lockout/tagout procedures, contribute significantly to establishing a secure work environment.

Automating to reduce manual intervention (thus reducing the risk of harm to operators) not only increases operator safety by reducing the risk of accidents, but can also increase safety of the product. For example, reducing manual intervention when automating liquid transfer in food manufacture can also reduce the risk of product contamination, which if not detected is a further worker safety risk if hygiene should slip, as well as potentially a risk to the end-user.

Utilising digital transformation technologies can certainly contribute to creating a safer work environment and allows employees to focus on more complex and value-added tasks that require their expertise.

Constant visual Pep talks such as TV shows,One on one pep talk (physically addressing all workers differently),and coloured educational plastic posters on walls of the factory,so that it will be embedded into their minds.

Also Organising a workshop training for workers on how to work well and smart, how to use Equipment, and how to enhance their awareness of emergency and the procedures on how to on their skills.

There should be an eighth category here titled "Communicate for Safety". While there's always vocal employees who are eager to tell the boss what's wrong, most of the hard working people on the line prefer not to make waves and won't be fully transparent unless asked the right questions. I've found there to be a low probability of gleaning useful feedback to questions like "Is everything safe in your area?" or "What can we do to make you safer?". Instead, walk the floor and tell your team "I'm going to stop by again tomorrow and I want you to show me one thing in our process that we can make safer". You'll get better feedback and see actionable themes emerge.
