1 Choose the right format

For vector data at least, SQLite is another excellent option due to its lightweight, easy to use and portable nature. It supports spatial extensions, has a low resource footprint and is easily deployable, making a mobile GIS application easy to be used in both online and offline modes.

A proto buffer or pbf format could render a huge size data into a separate part that can be called vector tiles. This is more suitable when data is cleaned or tree-shaked. But tradeof between performance and traffic reducing is a essential. Some other types that are more appropriate for development environment such as Shape file or kml also GeoJSON is adequate when data is sample. Another way is to make a raster from spatial data it means to render data before being available to access in client or mobile device. In this way, the vector data repainting and after a preprocess or after go through cache become acceible in client side.

Use the right tool for the right task. For example, it's possible to serve your vector data with a conventional backend framework like (geo)Django. However, there are servers specifically built for serving geospatial data such as Geoserver, QGISserver and Mapserver. These specialized servers offer greater efficiency and speed but could cost more resources, time and effort to setup. Knowing what tools are available for sharing geospatial data, as well as their pros and potential cons will help you serve your geospatial data faster and better.
