We need to anticipate for the type of errors we will in the development phase. Need to define different exception notification path for system errors and data errors. Define validations for data will optimize the possibility of data errors. Too much exceptions notification will also effect optimization of the process. Defining possible execptions at design phase will help you for better handling in development phase

Lets understand from UiPath perspective 1)Make sure the Application page loads completely before the bot perform any action. Retrying would help some times 2)Analyze the application and then decide the activities. Ex: Hotkeys work better than Click activities 3)The process should stop if there is a Consecutive System exception 4)Send an email to the internal team if unexpected happens in the process 5)Use Try Catch block, Throw, Rethrow wherever needed. Use log message to write the exception details 6)Validate the input before processing the data 7)Close all the Applications before the process starts 8)Capture exception screenshots and save 9)Document the exceptions helps to improve the process 10)Enable available recording options

Prior to launching any process, it's essential to conduct thorough stress testing. In my professional journey, I've found that incorporating robust data controls proves to be consistently effective. Additionally, when designing a process, it's prudent to explore the inclusion of a manual override feature to address potential system failures. Personally, I prefer testing data in a dedicated, isolated environment to avoid disruption for existing users. Also, integrating notification controls within the process ensures prompt alerts in case of any anomalies.

There are 2 types of exceptions available on any programming languages for now we focus on UiPath, 1. Even the error comes if we retry it will work again( like if an application is not loading quickly) 2. This one is no matter how many times we retry it will not move forward (ex: a wrong input or application is down for specific amount of time) in RPA like any programming language we can catch these exceptions using try catch (try to execute the process and catch if there is an exception and add appropriate steps) Also we need to understand the process thoroughly so we can catch all the exceptions during the development itself, but exception is inevitable that's why we have to catch unknown exceptions also and add the alternate steps)

System/application exception - These kind of exception/error occured due system performance, network issue & other unexcepted event. Business Exception: These kind of exception will rise when we have incorrect/wrongly business data to process the transaction.

We should always think the bot will fail and what if it fails , what are the alternate steps we need to do to make the process stops smoothly. in RPA like any programming language we can catch these exceptions using try catch (try to execute the process and catch if there is an exception and add appropriate steps) Also we need to understand the process thoroughly so we can catch all the exceptions during the development itself, but exception is inevitable that's why we have to catch unknown exceptions also and add the alternate steps test multiple number of times before going into the production and identify all the possible exceptions which can occur in our process Use throw to throw any custom exceptions and catch it and move forward

Catch - Immediately following the try block, there is a "catch" block. The catch block contains code that handles the exception—this could involve logging the error, displaying a message, or taking other corrective actions

Create a separate module for handling errors with specific arguments and custom logic for severity of errors. The module should also log errors in a database and generate notifications along with screenshots. Call that module inside catch block and pass the necessary arguments based on the error type. This will increase resuability and consistency.

Instead, create an excel log with the successful and failure status and send this file to the business at the end Send a process start email to the business so that they know when the execution has started Automate notifying(email) the users when given input is invalid If something is wrong with the application in the middle of the execution then don't just stop the process. Notify the users on the issue and share the processed data status in a log then stop Documenting every exception helps to remember what exceptions were handled previously and what additional exceptions need to be handled Creating dashboards based on the reporting would help to analyze& improvise the process

If any exceptions occurs be it a known or unknown exception we should make the developer or the business aware so they can move forward with the next approach. Always have a log stored somewhere in a central or local repository so we identify where exactly the error comes so we can also quickly make the required changes. If that is an business exception and bot cannot move forward we should send an alert to the business team so they can do the process manually or let the client knows.

This is an important step as we cannot say we identify all the errors and handled it gracefully. we should test and identify the possible exceptions and handle that as well. the last step is we should monitor the process regularly once it went into the production and update the bot to handle those exceptions as well.

The best way to approach this is by using 80:20 rule from Lean Six Sigma. It simply says - 80% of your errors are due to 20% of the issues. With that said we can use a pareto chart which will help you plot this. Now simply sort and select the top 20% of your issues which contribute to the max errors. Now that you have identified which errors to focus on, dig further; analysis the errors and action accordingly.

In any automated process there is always the possibility of a failure, which will almost always be the result of some element, which is why it is important to have spare parts and provide correct maintenance. However, what will help us anticipate the failure is a correct mechanical and programming analysis (PLC or robot) through which we can see the details of how our system is.
