One doesn't spend a gazillion sheckles to drill and complete all the wells in a full field development, and only then commence an evaluation and testing program. The two programs should be nearly simultaneous. The reasons should be glaring and obvious.

Our industry is a flux at the moment as the regulatory landscape is rapidly changing and prior practice of "run to failure" type of methodologies are being shifted to preventative and predictive maintenance. This shift is one of the primary reasons you see the trend toward setting asset management systems as a tool to not only track assets but as digital vehicles to more efficiently capitalize off the information around these events for the asset team as a whole. AI solutions are emerging as well, and without a digital architecture and infrastructure around a field comprehensively these technologies will be limited in impact.

The field development phase of an E&P project also goes by another name, at least with me and others in my circles. It's called the "Big Spend"! I refer to it as the most critical of all phases in E&P. This is where all in the oil & gas co take a brief moment to savor technical victory. It's also a time where the board members develop an external glowing smile and internal pit in their stomach. And, it's also the time where the investors smile back but twitch uncomfortably in their seats because they've just joined the group under pressure to deliver. Now it's time to perform! To get it right! Expertise in this critical phase is a necessity. There's few that have the specialized skill set to interact with all groups, at all levels.
