1 Auction formats

2 Bidding strategies

How should you bid in an auction? It depends on the auction format and your preferences. In general, there are two types of bidding strategies: truthful and strategic. A truthful bidding strategy means that you bid your true valuation of the item, regardless of the bids of others. A strategic bidding strategy means that you adjust your bid based on the information or expectations you have about the bids of others. 6 Combinatorial auctions

In some situations, the seller has multiple different items to sell, such as spectrum licenses, airport landing slots, or procurement contracts. In these cases, the seller may use a combinatorial auction, where the bidders can bid on combinations or bundles of items, rather than individual items. This allows the bidders to express their preferences more accurately and capture any synergies or complementarities among the items. However, combinatorial auctions are also more complex and challenging to design and implement, as they involve a larger number of possible bids, computational difficulties, and strategic issues.
