The close of the calendar year is an excellent time for the CEO and executive team to reflect on their values and the mission of their organization. Have this mission and these values been shared frequently with all employees? If I stopped any employee in the supply chain or any other group and asked about them, would the employee be able to explain what values drive the company? Do you begin every meeting or conference with a thoughtful contribution on one of the values and how your team exemplifies it? By repeatedly sharing your focus on values and the company mission you will drive employee to name it, claim it, and aim it.

I can't agree more with David, he has articulated his response immaculately. When you are in driving seat and see narrow path in front, you know will you be able to make it or its gonna be a close call. Similarly, when negotiating, you must ensure the contract has all possible clauses to safeguard CSR interest. Also, it will be worth checking market repute and previous work history on similar projects.

From my experience, I was able to successfully research the values and practices of my suppliers. This included a thorough analysis of their official website, which provided insight into company goals. Sustainability reports were also consulted to gain insight into environmental impacts and social practices. Reviewing certifications, industry ratings and recent media reports was also crucial. The use of social media and supplier evaluation platforms gave me additional perspectives. Direct conversations and site visits allowed me to utilise experiences from other companies and gain a comprehensive insight into the values and practices of my suppliers. This experience has helped me to build trusting and sustainable business relationships.

From my experience, I have successfully monitored and evaluated social responsibility in contracts. Establishing clear metrics allowed for accurate assessment of progress, while regular reports from the contractor enabled continuous monitoring. Independent reviews strengthened the credibility of results, and regular feedback and dialogue exchanges allowed challenges to be proactively addressed. The flexibility to adapt the contract as needed proved crucial given the dynamic nature of social responsibility. The involvement of relevant stakeholders played a key role in ensuring that their perspectives were taken into account. Overall, these experiences create an active implementation of social responsibility in the contractual relationship.

Life is a permanent trade off, sometimes we are in dominant position, sometimes we are not. We have to identify it and participate using the leverage we have, not to take advantage but to go as equals always. With that, we can assure a good deal for both negotiators.
