How can you monitor progress and performance during site supervision?

The on site team should have very clear project schedules with sufficient detail in activities to measure completed activities frequently. The last hour of my day on a jobsite, I often walk with a copy of my schedule and make note of activities that have started or completed. Additionally, I compare weekly subcontractor updates of their 3 week look ahead to activities they are working on. Any deviations or deficiencies will be addressed in the weekly meeting with the subcontractor. The key is to find deviations early and work with the contractor to make corrections before too much time has passed.

The following are the tools, and normally the project manager or immediate responsible in line meetings. The DPR’sl are the direct ones on the project manager. End of the day they have to capture ground level realities to extract maximum performance.

- Make a thorough checklist that covers all of the project's key elements. - Make sure the checklist addresses environmental compliance, safety, work quality, progress, materials, and equipment as well as site layout. - Adjust the checklist to the project's particular requirements and standards. - Update the checklist whenever there are modifications or additional requirements to keep it up to date. - Use the checklist every time you visit a place to ensure careful supervision. - Make a note of any problems, alterations, or locations that need care using the checklist. - Review and improve the checklist on a regular basis in light of project developments and experiences learned.
