I agree whole-heartedly here. We're working diligently on standards for evaluating and scoring the embodied carbon of a building. We've gotten so caught up in operational energy use and carbon emissions, the industry has historically been blind to performing a full life-cycle assessment of a project. I love seeing this!

Life cycle costing not only allows us to understand the value of the product or project, it's also a great tool for identifying issues with a design. It may allow us to make changes in processes or materials used to improve the cost, and therefore value, of the project over its lifetime. Maybe even extending the life of the product as well.

This is something I learned in my time in the automotive industry. Toyota was big on teaching us to develop a culture of continuous improvement. This, in my opinion, proves out in any industry notwithstanding the construction industry. Technology continues to develop an an exponential rate. Staying open to testing and incorporating what works into our processes increases an organizations relevance in the industry which directly correlates with the success of the project and organization.
