Alignment of actions and mutual trust between cloud providers and Identity Providers (IdPs) is critical for successful adoption. It's crucial to set them up to utilize a common protocol, such OpenID Connect, OAuth, or SAML, and to transfer certificates and metadata. This method puts an emphasis on how important consistent identity verification is to better security and smooth interoperability across a variety of cloud applications.

-The first step will be to consolidate identity information and map it to a single IAM user by linking different identities such as their email addresses or external identity providers to a central IAM User. This will centralize IAM Policies management. - Implement identity federation using Single Sign-On. This will enable users sign in with their existing credentials. - Apply principle of least privilege to ensure that that users are granted only the necessary permissions required to perform their task. - Leverage IAM Roles. this will enable you define a set of permissions that can be assumed by users with different credentials.

In my experience, our organization adopted an SSO solution that integrated with our Identity and Access Management (IAM) system. This not only enhanced user experience but also simplified policy management by centralizing access controls. This works in almost same way for multiple hyperscalers.. let's take example of AWS, you need three things, a). your org IDP ( Azure Ad, Octa etc), b). Your IAM access policies with actions mapped to services based on role, like dev, admin, superadmin, and c). IAM identities /accounts to be mapped to.. and you are all set with SSO. Users need to authenticate themselves with corp AD, Authorize themselves against iam policies for actions allowed in mapped account/services.

In a scenario I encountered, we utilized identity synchronization tools to ensure that user attributes and access permissions were consistent across all systems. - Managing a large number of users and resources across various cloud providers can pose a challenge to the scalability of the identity management platform. This situation calls for a robust and scalable solution capable of accommodating the growing volume of identities and access policies.

Having users of an organization in a centralized way will facilitate non only the management of users but also the stardardization of the process to access to multiple environments. In AWS, for instance, there is a service named AWS IAM Identity Center that allows managing users to access different AWS accounts with different roles. The service can store the users as a user pool or it can be integrated with an Active Directory or external IdPs.

To let people with different logins use stuff easily, use one login for everything (Single Sign-On). Make sure they get the right permissions with roles and rules. Keep an eye on who's doing what and make sure everything is safe. Use easy ways to let them share permission information. Make sure the rules are the same for everyone, no matter how they log in. Check everything regularly and teach people how to use it. That's how you make sure everyone gets to use things the right way!
