In my four years as a software engineer, I've mastered the art of meeting deadlines while crafting top-notch code. It's all about careful planning, strategic prioritization, and finding the right balance between perfectionism and efficiency. Only have deadlines on a time based project. The features and financing will have to flex. Work on the highest value, highest priority, most complex features and when time runs our you're done.

Coding standards is too subjective. Code should be consistent with one standard. Metrics (objective) should be adhered to. Unit tests to coverage required. Refactor. Refactor.

Using tools such as SonarLint can be useful in identifying unused import statements in Typescript or unused namespaces in C#. You add SonarLint to your CI pipeline as a build step. When creating a pull request into a branch such as develop the CI build will run SonarLint on your code.

Don't test or review. Unit test to code coverage. Each person must run all the every day and prior to checking in new code. Because you have automated tests this only takes a couple of minutes.

Most of this is unnecessary. A team of professionals do not need constant communication and collaboration. Communicate change or something that needs attention. Collaborate when you must. Write code.

Communication is critical, always. I pair this with transparency, which means you communicate about the status of your project transparently. Being in a team where everyone feels free to share their problems and challenges, as well as successes (at work…) is extremely important for creating a wuality product. This is especially true for online consumer products, where the product constantly change and the team needs to be in constant sync.

There by communicate early and communicate often. If you see an issue that will cause a delay let the stakeholder (generally a product or project manager) know in advance, than waiting longer. This helps the stakeholder manage expectations (generally up) in a much better way.

Continuous improvement, training, reading should all be baked into the process. There is always time for brown bags, reading, pluralsight, edx, mentoring, presentations, and sharing tech bobs and bibbles.

For dealing with deadlines and maintaining high-quality code, the first question is "why is there a deadline?" Sometimes they're legally mandated. That's the one case where you are boxed in. If so, find out what you're legally required to deliver. What's required may be less than what's requested. You can triage features into "now, later, and maybe." Sometimes it's "keeping up with the Joneses/" If so, why? Is there evidence that you must maintain feature parity? Make sure you understand the "why" and not just the "what." Sometimes it's better to attack the competition's weaknesses rather than strength. Otherwise, it's an exploratory project and you use triage and customer feedback to fine-tune the project. Prefer quality over quantity.

Remember that going live with a flaw may be extremely costly and that changing a running solution is a lot harder than changing it before it's been deployed. Going live late a few weeks may be annoying and embarrassing but going live with a flaw you should have found and fixed can be catastrophic.
