Three things I have found helpful, in addition to creating and maintaining a cash flow document to project out ebbs and flows, are the following: 1) Talk openly with major donors about cash flow challenges, and ask if they will consider shifting their payment schedules or splitting their payments up to help your cash flow. 2) Engage your board in the conversation. Can they give an additional gift this year to help cash flow? Accelerate gifts for a future year? Give a line of credit or interest free loan? 3) Have a line of credit with a bank that you can access in times of need.
