Having selected and implemented four systems over the last 10 years, I can confidently say that selecting the right Applicant Tracking System (ATS) is paramount in enhancing user-friendliness. Be mindful to consider factors such as organisation size, hiring volume, required features, integration capabilities, security, compliance, cost, and support. Prioritise ATS options with a simple interface, responsive, mobile-friendly design, and easily customisable configurations. Do your homework and conduct thorough research, including online reviews and vendor demos, to ensure alignment with your recruitment needs and a seamless user experience for both recruiters and candidates.

Don't skimp on training your ATS end-users. To stay ahead of the game, measure and evaluate the impact on ATS performance and user satisfaction, showcasing a commitment to optimal user experience in the dynamic recruitment landscape. Never a dull moment.

I hear often from recruiters that they traditionally have felt left out from the decision making and upgrade process. If you are a global company consider adding representation from all countries or regions as data, information, and processes for hiring may vary widely. Keep recruiting and TA staff in the loop and at the table for ATS decisions.

Your IT team is your friend! You can engage a process analyst or business architect to help review the ATS from start to finish. Is the process candidate-friendly? Are we leveraging all the functionality that the vendor offers? What is the roadmap for the next 1-5 years? Should we upgrade and offer more AI functionality?

How does the ATS integrate with other applications? Can candidate information be sent easily from the ATS to HR systems, other data warehouse applications? Build Large Learning Modules (LLM's) for data forecasting? This should be evaluated when choosing an ATS. Also, can the ATS accept data INTO their candidate database. How well does the data parse? What is the error rate? Its all about the data!
