How can you make training fun and memorable?

Games, Simulations, Challenges, Music, Fun activities, but most importantly, allowing the participants to be themselves and leaving room for humor.

??? Competition always adds a desire to win in humans. It is this natural or innate desire that can be tapped by the trainer to improve the engagement of the learners. ??? Gamification if integrated into the design phase will provide better dividends as it can be linked to the Learning Objectives for a deeper understanding of the topic. ??? Going a step ahead ,gamification can be used best to measure/evaluate Level 3 or Level 4 outputs, which are difficult to measure.

Learner engagement is center of the learning design these days. Experiential designs are the foundational thought of learning experts. The major focus is to keep the learner engaged through out the learning process. Fun with challenges, competitiveness etc.. various such learning strategies were on cards these days. Also should understand the fact informal learning plays a critical role which could be fostered with gamification approach.

Learning is always a Fun. It depends upon the facilitator or coach how he drives the crowd. Hence in My opinion the following pointers will be giving a helping hand to make learning a fun: ??Use Various Tools and Application. ??Rather speaking Narrative story add more visuals with story. ??Keep Audience engaged with random questions in the meeting and share their view points and opinions. ??Give a comfort zone so that people can open up. ??If it is virtual then use the technology by creating some break out Rooms. ??Everyone wants to be heard, hence ample opportunities should be given. at the end of the day ROI can be achieved from the taining.

An effective practice here is to intersperse microlearning modules with regular training sessions, providing a varied rhythm that maintains engagement. Also, incorporating interactive elements like quick polls or reflection questions in these microlearning snippets can boost engagement and retention.

In applying microlearning, you want to create a learning journey - design a continuous learning journey by structuring microlearning modules in a logical sequence. Each module should build on the previous one, gradually deepening understanding. For example, in IT training, start with a microlearning video on basic coding, followed by interactive quizzes reinforcing specific language concepts. This progressive approach ensures a seamless flow of knowledge, promoting sustained engagement.

We run sessions around 30 minutes long which, I believe, makes them successful. People are able to fit them into their day and attention doesn't wane as much as it does in all day training.

I use the term edutainment, a mix of education and entertainment. Appropriate humour can help the delegates to enjoy their learning. Laughter lowers the brain temperature and helps cement learning points into the brain.

Based on feedback I've received, it's always a good technique to share real-life stories. People are interested in them and they will remember! Of course, make sure they're relevant to the material!

The primary goal of any training is transfer on the job. That's where the real challenge is.?? Many times employees may get overwhelmed by the sheer content of training. Hence to achieve maximum retention & learning, CHUNKING is recommended. Any logical grouping of concepts/processes/ techniques qualifies for chunking. ??The trainer/ facilitator needs to break information into digestible chunks to get the best results.

There's a big difference between "fun" and "memorable." I was CPR certified for a previous job. The facilitator told plenty of stories during the course. They weren't fun stories. They were serious, real-world examples that echoed the importance of what we were learning. They made the session more memorable because they added meaning to our time together. Determine the problem you're trying to solve. Get to know your audience. Figure out what will make the learning experience memorable, meaningful and motivational. Yes, I totally borrowed those 3 Ms from Michael Allen. Sometimes, fun activities, lighthearted stories, games and humor make sense. Other times, they're distractions.

Sharing?from current?players?is also a good idea. Whether the sharing focuses on the working path with memorable moments to motivate them or serves as a testimony to support the main topic, the trainees will get the chance to see more, learn more about what to anticipate, and get ready.

Until and unless employees see the relevance of training it will remain a tick of the box activity. A clear WIFM (What's In It For Me) translated into engaging content coupled with an experienced (experience in topic and level of audience) and energetic trainer is a must.
