The best way I have found to engage people on video calls is to ensure as a leader you are calling on specific people to give their inputs and perspectives. The key here though is ACTUALLY doing your homework and generally caring about those people and knowing in advance that they can successfully contribute to what you are asking

I'm lucky to be involved in global meetings on almost a daily basis. One thing I've found helpful when you have 3+ participants calling in from different time zones/continents is to consider mixing up the times so no one person is consistently inconvenient (esp for regular meetings). And be careful not to assume -simply ask, because an inconvenient time for you may not be for them!
